Happy Tuesday!
In a world drowning in debt, it makes sense that over-spending is on our minds. But as Norm Hill writes in his latest Silver Linings column, "To the successful savers who can’t bring themselves to spend," it's also possible to go to the other extreme — perhaps especially for retirees who have worked hard to save for years.
Norm describes people who are "living frugally not because they have to but because something in their long-established mental wiring won’t let them change."
Lois Collins also writes about a new world report that shows 70% of the world population lives in 121 countries and territories where fertility is at or below replacement level. Jacob Hess tells the story of a Ukrainian family who boarded a flight from the U.S. to Argentina to flee the uncertainty and limbo they feel amid uncertain statuses. And Lee Benson tells about a son who recreated his late father's heroic bike ride in Europe during WWII to help preserve his father's life.
